Equity partnered with UCL Institute of Education to jointly deliver the Department of Education funded First World War national centenary education programme, which has run since 2014.
Scale of Achievements
The programme has performed well above expectations, taking two students and one teacher from over 2,200 secondary schools in England on a 4-day tour of the battlefields of Ypres and the Somme.
Using learnings to enhance our tours
Through delivering the First World War centenary battlefield tours, Equity has gained unique insights and knowledge on how to enhance further its battlefield tour offering. Consequently, Equity now offers both History and English Literature themed tours, specifically focusing on the First World War, with thought-provoking itineraries that align to exam board specifications.
The programme continues
As a direct result of the current project achievements to date, the government announced in the Autumn budget that it would continue to fund the Battlefield Tours Programme. Therefore, from April 2019, UCL Institute of Education will continue to offer and run the government sponsored programme. Any schools who would like to register and take advantage of their free tour place can do so, through to 2020.
